What’s New?

Lots shakin' here with some cool acts: 

Ruth Wakefield's long-awaited album, Take Me Home is very near completion.  It could well wind up being the most important release to come out of the facilities here...a tremendous amount of time and effort has gone into production.  It's been well worth it!  It is a fine album indeed. 

Rory Kelly's Triple Threat has contracted with me to assist in production of their forthcoming blues/rock offering.  I've been making mix suggestions and I'm also beginning to master some tracks.  I'll also be lending some guitar work to a cut or two as well.  It is, in a word:  kick-ass!

My good friend Sam Earnhardt is scheduled to come in to track his latest song-writing output here in the next couple weeks.  Another classy artist, and I'll try to keep from splitting my sides laughing...he certainly knows how to have a good time.  Really looking forward to this!

Upstate SC's Archer vs. Gunman will be in next month (October) to begin tracking an album's worth of material.  It'll wind up being labeled as "Americana", but it's still rock 'n' roll to me!

Blonde Blues has taken delivery of their new album that was tracked, mixed, and mastered here.  Look for them out in a venue near you, and be sure to pick up a copy of their new record.

I just finished (re) mastering a release from vinyl for the beautiful and talented Laura Laughridge.  Man, can she sing!

After several weeks of trying this and that, I chose the Lynx Aurora 16's.  These Analog to Digital/Digital to Analog converters are considered to be among the best in the audio world...being used in some of the finest studios around the globe. 32 channels of sonic excellence WITH SAMPLE RATES UP TO 192Khz, whether it be for tracking or mixing...and these are certainly 'mastering-quality' converters as well.  These should go a long way here of fulfilling my motto of "SOUND INTEGRITY".

New Monitors!  Focal Twin 6be's

I did a lot of comparison, and these won out.  And a judicious choice it has been!  I loved the Mackies, but they've found a new home; these new Focals are yielding even better translation results for mixing and mastering.  Thanks to my good friend, Rob Stimson, for construction and installation of more new acoustic traps; we be sittin' pretty.  The rooms here are very well-tuned!

Also recently added a pair of Avantone Mix Cubes to put the icing on the cake for translatable mixes!!!

Mastering

Sample rates up to 192Khz

I am pleased to note that I have added another kickin' EQ here for multiples duties, the A-Designs Hammer (HM2EQ).  It's a unit that's been getting rave reviews for the quality sound that it imparts through its 12AT7 vacuum tube stage.  I've rolled the tubes in this one to incorporate a pair of vintage NOS Telefunken valves which are in a class by themselves.  You have to hear this EQ to believe it.  Suh-weet!  I have also just added an API 2500 stereo compressor.  It's widely accepted as a very musical and versatile compressor that is especially effective at adding "punch" to tracks processed through it...or it can be transparent.  The API sound is legendary.  I am glad to companion this with the API 5500 EQ!

I've just installed an Antelope Audio Isochrone OCX master clock to the proceedings to enable better, more efficient mastering and mixing decisions.  Also new to the house for mastering and mixing are the Manley Vari-Mu tube compressor-limiter and a Crane Song Avocet for the ultimate in monitoring control.  I am just as excited to note that I have added another stellar EQ, the API 5500.  These pieces are so incredibly revered and versatile.  More classic stuff to better serve our clients!
